Hey, it’s Arbor Day’s big brother, or at least more popular sister. Earth Day makes for good outside activities, environmental science, and just general fun. Yeah, it might seem sort of Anti-Earth to print a bunch of worksheets, but why not print one for the document camera? Or have students look at the one you project onto the SMARTBoard? At any rate, after you’ve sweat a bit cleaning up your school’s sidewalks, pulling weeds, picking up trash and all, cool off and try one of these activities

Cinco de Mayo (The 5th of May), is rapidly becoming to America what St. Patrick’s Day is. Everyone can be a bit Spanish for a day, just like they get a bit green and Irish on St. Patty’s. May is always a bit hard to muster up enthusiasm, being at the end of the year and all, so make it fun for students AND you with some fun stuff from Have Fun Teaching!

Ho HO HO! I can almost smell the plastic Christmas trees now! I know we all have a little kid somewhere hidden inside, and our students are little kids. Therefore, most of us love Christmas. It doesn’t matter if it’s the presents and parties or the lights and trees. We all get a little giddy and happier around that season, so why not celebrate a bit and give your students some fun morning work? Do some Christmas activities, like coloring contests (which can be religion and culture friendly as needed), or word scrambles, or essays about what winter and the holidays mean to each person?

Is there anything teachers like more than holiday activities with their kids? Well, science experiments might be a close second, but artsy-craftsy stuff and holiday packets of stuff are the bread and butter of a teacher’s soul, and there is so little time for them nowadays. Give in to the temptation and browse these pages here and pull out a few pages you like. I’ve always been surprised that even 4th and 5th graders get excited about doing activities or even coloring as morning work every now and then!
